RECOGNITION

Girl Scouts of North East Ohio serves 12,000 girls and adults in Erie, Huron, Lorain, Sandusky and Seneca Counties. With the support of our adult volunteers, the Girl Scout program continues to flourish.

Why recognize adults?

Girl Scout Volunteers We give our time, skills, knowledge, friendship and love for so many reasons. One reason is that it makes us feel good. People don’t volunteer because they expect a reward. They see a job that needs to be done—and they do it.

Any organization that truly values its volunteers will validate and publicly recognize their contributions. Girl Scouts validate volunteers by having position descriptions, training and offering growth within the organization. We recognize volunteers in many ways. GSUSA and Girl Scouts of North East Ohio have developed visible recognition to thank adults who give so much to help achieve our mission.

The purpose of adult recognition is to honor adult volunteers whose services directly or indirectly support or enhance girl experiences in Girl Scouting. The quality of the individuals accomplishments is a key factor for recognizing someone whose service goes “above and beyond”, who exceeds expectations, whose contributions are significant, or who are role models. Outstanding contributions to troops, groups, Service Units and Council are recognized.

What are the recognitions?

Expressions of gratitude take various forms: Service Unit appreciations, including informal words of thanks and greetings made by girls within the Service Unit, or Council-wide and formal acknowledgments from council including Board approved awards.

Informal Awards

It is important, whenever possible, to acknowledge any service given, whether it is done merely with a smile and a verbal “Thank you” or in a more tangible way. Handwritten notes and handmade tokens are appropriate in many cases. Girl Scout gifts, specialty items, certificates and letters of thanks are also appropriate ways to say thank you and are available from Juliette’s Treasures, the Girl Scout Shop. These require no approval, and are decided upon, paid for and presented by Service Units.
