The enduring benefits of Girl Scouts have been documented in recent research by the Girl Scouts of the USA, and Louis Harris & Associates. Girls who are Girl Scouts identify higher levels of self-esteem and confidence in their lives than non-Girl Scouts. Former Girl Scouts report their involvement with Girl Scouts as contributing highly to their success in both their formative years and as adults. And nearly 50% of the families polled say that their relationship with their daughter improved because of Girl Scouts. This information may be viewed as "old news" by some; after all, Girl Scouts has a long tradition of giving girls self-confidence, helping them to build skills and become better citizens. What the research does provide is documentation for what many have learned firsthand--Girl Scouting makes a measurable difference in the lives of girls.
And volunteers make this happen. Whether you are a troop leader, a trainer, an office volunteer, a cookie chair, or a troop driver, thanks for helping girls grow strong!
