How the dictionary defines camp:
How Girl Scouts define camp:
- A place where memories are made
- Campfires, smores, and songs
- Caring counselors
- A place where you stretch outside your comfort zone
- Traditions from the generations
- Making new friends
The magic of camp can be experienced in so many different ways. From day camp to troop camping to resident camp, Girl Scouts offer a wide variety of camp experiences for every girl. Whether she wants to live in the outdoors or is spooked by bugs, Girl Scouts of North East Ohio has a camping opportunity perfect for every Girl Scout.
Girl Scouts of North East Ohio owns and operates outdoor camp sites year round (Pleasant Valley--located in Green Springs, Singing River--located in North Fairfield, and Timberlane--located north of Wakeman). These sites may be used by any Girl Scout troop or group for hiking, sports, games, all kinds of camping, conferences and training sessions or any program, which lends itself to an outdoor setting. Girl Scouts of North East Ohio camping standards are determined by GSUSA and the American Camping Association to protect the health and safety of children and adults.
Camping should be integrated into every Girl Scout's experience because it:
- Promotes the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of every girl and leader.
- Develops resourcefulness, initiative, self-reliance and recognition of the worth and dignity of each individual.
- Provides opportunities for practice in democratic living.
- Develops a sense of responsibility, qualities of leadership and an awareness of the capacities of all people.
- Provides an inner satisfaction, a sense of awe and wonder and a deep enjoyment for both girl and leader.
- Provides a sense of accomplishment.
- Stimulates each girl's awareness of the scope of the natural world.
- Develops the individual's sense of responsibility for conserving the natural world.
